Charges and fees When you agree to rent a property you usually need to pay: - Brokerage if applicable - should not not be more than 1 weeks rent
- Bond - similar to a deposit. This is equal to 4 weeks rent. The bond amount is deposited with the Bond Center, part of Tenancy services. The bond is refunded to you when you leave the property unless you have not paid rent or have caused some damage.
- Rent - is usually paid fortnightly and the amount of rent paid varies between suburbs and cities. The landlord may ask you to pay up to two weeks’ rent in advance. This means you pay the next rent two weeks later, and so on until the end of the tenancy.
Note : The landlord cannot increase the rent within six months of either the start of the tenancy or the last rent increase.
