Following the regional visits program launched by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), department staff will visit the Central West of NSW on September 19, 2011. This is a good opportunity for local residents to discuss any immigration issues they may have faced.
According to the program, people outside major capital cities can now access experienced immigration officers from the government to discuss specific issues relating to Australian immigration.
"People in regional communities have a wide variety of immigration questions, ranging from the skilled migration program which helps small business owners who can't find experienced local staff, to issues for overseas students or people who want to enquire about sponsorship of family members or citizenship," quoted from a department spokesman's statement.
"While the department has a great deal of information available over the phone or on the Internet, some people may not be aware of recent policy changes or they may prefer to speak to officers face-to-face. These visits meet those needs." the spokesman added.
People who have been residents of Australia for a long time are encouraged by DIAC to take the final step in their immigration journey and become an Australian citizen.
Local residents can be helped by immigration outreach officers who will be available to discuss all immigration issues, including specific topics such as citizenship, work visas, visas for family members, partner visas and the process for proposing refugees.
DIAC officers will visit some regions as follows:
- Bathurst : September 19 from 10.30am-4pm
- Cowra: September 20 from 9-11am
- Parkes: September 20 from 1.30-4.30pm
- Dubbo: September 21 from 10am-4pm.
- Orange: September 22 from 10am-4.30pm
- Lithgow: September 23 from 10am-1.30pm.
