Appointments will be held in Scenic Rim and Southern Downs from July 25 to 28 for the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) officers and Australian residents to discuss on immigration issues, particularly on employer-sponsored visa options and the Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme.
Queensland outreach officers will conduct free information sessions focusing on businesses and overseas workers and will also be available for individual meetings with regional employers.
According to a department spokesperson, "Our officers will be on hand to answer a range of questions about the skilled migration program, such as market salary rates, health insurance, training requirements and employer obligations".
Some businesses in regional Australian communities might have difficulty in finding local skilled workers and might consider recruiting suitably qualified foreign skilled workers, so added the department spokesperson.
Information on the Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme will also be provided. Under this scheme, employees can be sponsored for worker visas as fruit and vegetable growers.
"The Pacific Seasonal Worker Pilot Scheme allows fruit and vegetable growers to gain access to a stable, motivated and trained labour force for the whole season. The same workers are also available the following season as trained, experienced workers".
In addition, other Australian visas and Australian citizenship matters will also be discussed.
Australian Immigration outreach officers are available to help people in communities outside of capital cities with any specific issues they might face. Scheduled appointments are as follows:
- Beaudesert: July 25 from 2-5pm, at The Centre, 82 Brisbane Street, Beaudesert, followed by an information session from 5.30-7pm.
- Boonah: July 26 from 2-5pm at the Boonah Cultural Centre, 3 High Street, Boonah, followed by an information session from 5.30-7pm.
- Warwick: July 27 from 2-5pm at the Warwick Library, 49 Albion Street, Warwick, followed by an information session from 5.30-7pm.
- Stanthorpe: 28 from 2-5pm at the Stanthorpe Council Chambers, 61 Marsh Street, Stanthorpe, followed by an information session from 5.30-7pm.
