The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has released the criteria for Sponsorship Accreditation that will allow accredited employers to access priority processing and six-year approval periods for all future 457 visa applications.
Following an earlier announcement about the changes to the Australian 457 visa system, DIAC has provided further details about Sponsorship Accreditation Eligibility that came into effect on November 7, 2011.
According to the announcement, to be eligible for Accredited Status, employers must:
- be a government agency, a publicly-listed company, or a private company having at least USD$4 million turnover per year for the last three years;
- have already employed workers on 457 visas during the past three years (with a break of no more than six months, not due to any sanction);
- have no adverse information known about them based on DIAC and Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relation monitoring, including formal warnings and sanctions;
- have had at least 30 overseas workers under primary subclass 457 visa in the previous 12 months;
- have lodged a high level of decision-ready applications over the past two years;
- have a non-approval rate of less than three percent for the past three years;
- have a minimum of 75 percent of Australian workers in their workforce and commit to maintain this rate.
Eligible employers can apply for Accredited Status by submitting new sponsorship application or applying for a variation of a current sponsorship agreement using either eVisa or the paper form 1196s.
Employers who do not meet the eligibility requirements (above) will still have their application processed and assessed for standard business sponsorship. Accredited Status can be revoked if employers do not continue to maintain their eligibility.
