Australian immigration minister Chris Bowen has clarified his plans to make it tougher for certain refugees to apply for visa to Australia.
Chris Bowen suggested last week that any criminal refugees who applying for an Australian visa while in detention should fail in character test.
However, he has also clarified his suggestions by revealing that refugees would still be eligible for a visa, but it would be more difficult for them to grant Australian permanent residence later.
"A temporary visa which says either A: we will return you when we can, or B: if you become a good community resident, a good resident of Australia and you have a good behaviour track record over a period of time then we will consider other arrangements for you," Bowen said.
Moving all child refugees out of detention was also in Bowen's plans. He added updates on this as well.
"I said we would have the majority of children out into the community by June and we wil. We have already got more than a quarter out, we've got almost every young unaccompanied minor out into the community - we have been working very closely with the Red Cross to do that," he added.
The changes from proposed rules for Australian visas have not been passed into law yet.
