Tips on suspected Canadian Citizenship fraud cases can be reported directly to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre.
September 8, 2011, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney introduced the new tip line through the CIC Call Centre to help find out immigrants who have earned Canadian citizenship fraudulently.
The new announcement came after a crackdown on Citizenship Fraud last July. It is reported that Canada was in the process of stripping Canadian citizenship from 1800 people who were suspected of obtaining citizenship by fraudulent means.
Recent statistics reveal that approximately 2,000 people from over 100 countries may have obtained Canadian citizenship fraudulently. According to the Minister, crooked immigration consultants could play such an important role in fraud cases. Crooked immigration consultants citizenship could facilitate citizenship being issued to people who did not qualify to become Canadian citizens while Canadian immigrants who want to become Canadian Citizens must meet the requirements in an honest way. Foreigners can obtain Canadian Citizenship by two popular ways: Canadian Citizenship through Permanent Residency and Canadian Citizenship through adoption.
With the help of new tip line, cases involving false representation, fraud or knowingly concealing material circumstances in the citizenship process should be directly reported to the CIC Call Centre. Tips may be reported by email as well.
The Minister also confirmed that CIC would ensure that all tips were investigated and actions would be taken appropriately. He added that "Canadian citizenship is not for sale. I encourage anyone who has information regarding citizenship fraud to call our tip line."
