Manitoba's Auditor-General is reviewing an initiative designed to attract more immigrant investors to the province.
"We wanted to find out how that whole investment part worked, and if there was any potential for [immigrants] to be taken advantage of ", said Manitoba Auditor-General Carol Bellringer. Accordingly, the audit can focus on any aspect of the program's administration - from financial and human-resources management to its information system. Through the investor migration stream, part of the broader Canadian provincial nominee program, Manitoba can select newcomers to their province by inviting them to invest tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars into the local economy for the privilege of obtaining permanent residency.

Manitoba is considered the most successful province in driving immigration and is banking on its record of success to persuade Immigration Minister Jason Kenney to increase the cap for migrants to the province.
