Canada Immigration Minister Jason Kenney sent Muslim immigrants in Canada and around the world wishes for a peaceful Ramadan month starting from 1st August.
The holy month of Muslim-named as Ramadan- take place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
On the first day of Ramadan, Canada Immigration Minister Jason Kenney made the following statement in recognition of Muslims living in Canada.
"The holy month of Ramadan, which begins today, takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. For Muslims in Canada and around the world, this month is a time of profound worship and contemplation as Muslims are called upon to fast, pray and read the Qur'an. Ramadan is a month of deep spirituality and a time to practice self-discipline and self-evaluation, as well as charitable giving. Prayer, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and charitable giving are three of the five pillars of Islam."
Also, in the speech, Mr. Jason Kenney emphasized the importance of this month to all Canadian citizens. He added that this month was a good opportunity to learn about Islam and to acknowledge the contributions that Muslims had made to Canada's rich and diverse heritage. Especially, the Minister extended his best wishes for a peaceful Ramadan to not only Muslims migrating in Canada, but also Muslims all over the world.
Considered as home to many Muslim immigrants, Canada accepted 1 million Muslim migrants in 2006. Since there is no official religious discrimination according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the immigrants of all religious backgrounds opt to immigrate to Canada and most of them live in the province of Ontario and Toronto.
