According to an announcement from the UK Border Agency, the visa application centre at the British Embassy in Tehran, Iran is closed.
Iranian citizens wanting to travel to the UK cannot submit any visa applications in Tehran. UK visa applications that have already been submitted in Tehran will not be processed either.
Instead, applicants from Iran can submit UK visitor visa applications at any visa application centre worldwide. The UKBA suggests Iranian nationals submit their visa applications for all visa categories at one of the following visa application centres:
- United Arab Emirates - Dubai and Abu Dhabi;
- Turkey - Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Gaziantep.
Iranian citizens are also reminded to submit their visa applications online and book an appointment to attend a visa application centre to complete the process. Visa applicants in Turkey must pay their visa application fee online.
Applicants should be aware that it may not be possible to process visa applications within published customer service standards due to the circumstances. The closure of Britain's embassy in Teheran is due to growing tension between the two countries following an attack on the embassy compound in Tehran on November 29, 2011.
