Ambassador Frank Baker to Kuwait has launched the annual British Council UK Education Exhibition, EDUKEX 2011, in Kuwait from November 23 to 24.
The annual exhibition will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel for the two days and is designed to help Kuwaiti students learn more about the UK education system and range of courses available.
More than 40 universities and colleges from the UK will be attending EDUKEX 2011 and all exhibitors are on the Ministry of Higher Education's list of accredited UK universities for undergraduate and postgraduate study.
EDUKEX is an opportunity for international students to speak directly with UK universities, alumni and British Council experts in the same place. The exhibit provides an opportunity for prospective students to compare a wide variety of UK institutions and consider the UK as a study destination to gain English language skills and/or a UK qualification.
According to the ambassador, the number of Middle Eastern students applying to study at UK universities has not declined since the Arab Spring uprising. "As is often the case with such exchanges, both countries benefit immeasurably. You heard from our embassy border officer, we have been processing at least about 2,000 student visas annually. So roughly, including the English language students and long-term students we've got around 8,000 Kuwaiti students currently enrolled into various education institutions."
The UK Border Agency will also be at EDUKEX and be able to provide tips and information about UK visa requirements. The Ministry of Higher Education, the Kuwait Cultural Office (Embassy of Kuwait in London), and the Kuwait Association of British Alumni (KABA), will also be represented.
