The UK has widely embraced exceptionally talented immigrants to UK by introduction of the new Tier 1 'exceptional talent' route on Thursday July 20.
According to the news from the UK Home Office, the government has launched this special visa scheme to encourage UK Immigration for applicants with exceptional talents. The new 'exceptional talent' route will open on 9 August 2011. It will not only assist those who have already been recognised but those who have potential to be recognized as well.
The new Tier 1 "exceptional talent' will be issued to 1,000 applicants per year. The UK immigrants who are accepted must be exceptionally talented leaders in the fields of science, humanities, engineering and the arts.
Although this UK visa will not require a job offer from UK employer, it needs to be endorsed by an "accredited competent body" which has just been introduced as below :
- The Royal Society, a fellowship of the world's most eminent scientists, will be able to nominate up to 300 places;
- Arts Council England, the national development agency for the arts, will also be able to nominate up to 300 places;
- The Royal Academy of Engineering, Britain’s national academy for engineering, will have up to 200 places to nominate;
- The British Academy, the national academy for the humanities and social sciences will be able to nominate up to 200 places.
The UK migrants seeking entry visa to UK under Tier 1 Exceptional Talent need to be recommended by one of these competent bodies above. The accepted applicants will initially be granted three years and four months leave to remain in the UK. They will be able to extend their stay at UK for a further two years and their UK settlement may be available after five years’ residence in the UK.
In the announcement, UK Immigration Minister Damian Green said:
"The UK is a global leader in science, humanities and engineering and we are a cultural centre for the arts. We will continue to welcome those who have the most to offer and contribute to our society and economy"
