According to the Home Office, UK visa fees will be increased for foreign nationals applying to visit, study, work or immigrate to the UK, and UK employers as well as education providers applying for a sponsor license.
Some of the changes to UK visa fees are as follows:
- A number of same day PEO applications for dependents made from within the UK will double in price or more than double in price.
- Tier 1 Visas made from within the UK will go up from 850 to 1,000 GBP.
- Short term student visas for periods of less than twelve months will double from 70 to 140 GBP.
- Settlement visas for dependent relatives will be even more expensive going up from 1,680 to 1,814 GBP.
- Most other UK visa fees will also increase. However, the increases will generally not be more than about five to twenty percent in most other cases. For example a Tier 2 postal application will increase in price from 500 to 550 GBP.
The new immigration fees will be taken effected from April 6, 2011 following Parliamentary approval and announcement by Damian, minister of UK immigration in late February.
"Under the current spending review, the Home Office is implementing a real terms reduction in budgets of up to a 20 per cent. The UK Border Agency is already seeking to offset this income gap with efficiency savings of approximately 500 million pounds by reducing support costs, increasing efficiencies, boosting productivity and improving value for money from commercial suppliers. But these measures will not go far enough, and to address the funding shortfall the UK Border Agency will need to increase fees for financial year 2011/12 " the statement read.
The statement also showed that the extra funds would be used to enforce border security.
"The UK Border Agency believes the proposals to increase fees continue to strike the right balance between maintaining secure and effective border controls and ensuring that the fees structure does not inhibit the UK's ability to attract those migrants and visitors that make a valued contribution. This will help to support the immigration system, maintain public confidence and ensure that migration is managed for the benefit of the UK "quoted from the statement.
