According to the Director of UK Trade and Investment of British High Commission Justin Davies, the UK intends to reconsider British visa processing in Chittagong, Bangladesh for real businessmen.
This announcement was disclosed at a meeting with the leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) at the chamber house.
In addition, Mr. Davies indicated that the UK would have further discussions with local authorities about offering UK visa processing in Chittagong. The new visa centre is expected to make it more convenient for Bangladesh businessmen to apply for their UK business visas.
Mr. Davies has also expressed an interest in introducing O and A level schools and colleges of international standard in Chittagong with the assistance of the CCCI. In return, the CCCI President Murshed Morad Ibrahim has asked the UK to ease the rules of origin to facilitate exports of Bangladeshi products to the UK.
The UK and Bangladesh have shared a long historical link and Bangladesh, according to Davies, is a fast growing country. It is estimated that Bangladeshis are one of the youngest of the UK's ethnic populations; 38 percent under the age of 16, 59 percent aged between 16-64, and only 3 percent aged 65 and over.
