Gov. Rick Snyder has launched a latest initiative, named Global Michigan, to attract higher numbers of highly skilled immigrants and investors who wish to invest their funds and ideas to help boost Michigan state's economy.
The effort is modeled after a similar program created by Snyder when he was an Ann Arbor businessman that he now wants to expand on a state level. He is said to have long been interested in this topic and recognizes the value immigrants to the US can play in the new economy, especially in the development of Michigan.
However, the aim of Snyder's initiative is not to invite just immigrants to work in the US. He only hopes to attract entrepreneurs, investors and other skilled foreign worker willing to bring their talent, ideas and business plans to synergize the economy.
Leaders of the initiative are in the process of enlisting public and private organizations, building relationships and addressing current issues in attracting and retaining international students and other skilled immigrants. Besides, they have also worked to get more foreign nationals into programs that offer US Investor visas for those who make investments in the state with jobs for Americans.
Ron Perry, a volunteer in another program whose board chairman was Governor Synder, said that the need of the hour is to provide US immigrants with a friendly atmosphere which can enable immigrants in the US establish businesses and bring development in the economy of Michigan.
