The United States and Russia had completed their work in visa reform, so said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a statement during the news conference with Secretary Clinton on 13 July 2011.
The new visa deal between two countries will be signed by Christmas, Lavrov added "In regard to the timeframe, will be this year for sure and much earlier than Christmas".
This aim had been mentioned in a meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in Moscow in March and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed scrapping visa restrictions between the US and Russia.
Following that, the Russian and U.S. presidents, Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama, announced plans to liberalize visa restrictions for businessmen and tourists traveling to the USA and vice versa in May. Under the new agreement, eligible visa holders as Business Visa and Travel Visa would be issued US visas valid for 36 months at a unified and reciprocal fee.
According to Secretary Clinton, the new visa regulations would improve business cooperation between the two countries.
"This is a big deal for those who are doing business, and we are laying the groundwork for even more trade and travel," Clinton said.
