US Ambassador James Warlick made a speech at the opening of the exhibition entitled "Travel USA" in Sofia, Bulgaria. In his speech, he welcomed Bulgarians to come and discover America.
The "Travel USA" exhibition took place at Hall 6 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, in partnership with the US Embassy-Sofia and AmCham Bulgaria to promote travel and tourism to the US.
In his speech, the Ambassador stated that there has been a sharp increase in the number of Bulgarians traveling to the US, by up to 75% in the last ten years. He also added that the US, following Europe, is one of the destinations that Bulgarians like to visit the most. "The US is like a magnet for Bulgarians", he joked.
The Ambassador encouraged Bulgarians to travel to the US by suggesting many natural wonders people must visit when traveling in this country such as the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, the Niagara Falls, East California or the Arizona desert with its splendid night sky.
"Come and discover America," the Ambassador said. "The US is not just Washington DC, New York or Las Vegas, there is Hawaii and Alaska as well."
In addition to the Ambassador's encouragement to attract Bulgarians to visit the US, the US Vice Consul, Kimberly Atkinson gave an explanation about the process of granting US visas, saying that despite what many Bulgarians think, the process is easy and instant.
"It is all online, the application process and the scheduling of the interview do not take more than 30 minutes all while in 2010, only 16% of the applications have been rejected and 84% of tourist visas approved," Atkinson stated, adding that most of the above said visas are valid for 10 years, which means their holder has the chance to visit the US on a number of occasions.
