In the effort of US Government to take a stand against the increasing number of foreigners, mostly Israelis, working illegally in kiosks and stands located in American shopping malls, the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv recently released a video warning young Israelis not to be tempted by illegal offers of work in the United States.
In the 12-minute video, titled "The Price is Too High: Trying to Work Illegally in the United States," Israeli citizens caught by U.S. authorities share frankly about being captured, questioned and deported from the U.S. The video targets Israelis who are trying to enter the U.S. on US tourist visas with the intention of working illegally in kiosks in local shopping malls. This has been done by thousands of Israelis for decades, but the U.S. has gotten wise to the phenomenon now.
The video features U.S. officials warning that attempts to illegally enter the U.S. for work could result in a ban from the country for a lifetime. The officials noted people caught attempting to enter the U.S. in this way can be put in jail, alongside common criminals.
US immigration officials stressed that every Israeli wishing to enter the U.S. must first be issued a visa. Tourists may stay in the country for three months. Similarly, B1 and B2 visa holders may visit and attend business meetings. Holders of these two types of visas may not legally seek employment or be paid for work in the U.S.
Along with the warning, U.S. Government also stated that they are trying to crack down on the companies that scam young Israelis by promising a good life in the U.S. and cheat them out of thousands of dollars. US Government hope the video can make everyone agree with them that "the price is too high" if you are caught.
