Currently Green Card applicants from those countries must wait for approval for up to six years because the federal government limits the distribution per country to no more than 7 percent of the available US visas and each year the US Government only issue 140,000 employment-based Green Cards.
In addition, Senate Subcommittee on US Immigration, Refugees and Border Security are set to hold a hearing this week on "The Economic Imperative for Enacting Immigration Reform.". This hearing will focus on individuals in support of encouraging the number of Green Cards for high-skill workers to work in the US.
In the hearing, there will be attendance of Robert Greifeld, CEO of Nasdaq OMX Group, David Skorton, the president of Cornell University, and Brad Smith, who serves as Microsoft's general counsel.
Along with the bill, there is recently similar proposal on issuing more Green Cards to foreign students pursuing advanced degrees in math and science from top universities by US Representative Zoe Lofgren of California, a Democrat as well.
