U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) are reminding its customers that the open of re-registration period for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will end on January 5, 2012.
TPS is a temporary immigration status that entitles nationals of designated countries to remain in the U.S as it has been deemed dangerous to return to their country because of an environmental disaster, war or other temporary severe condition.
According to the extension of TPS, eligible nationals of Honduras and Nicaragua living in the U.S under the TPS could be allocated an additional18 months. The period begins from January 6, 2012 to July 5, 2013.
Currently, TPS beneficiaries who want to re-register must submit both an Application for Temporary Protected Status, Form I-821 and Application for Employment Authorization, Form I-765, regardless of whether they are applying for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
Form I-821 application fee will not be required for re-registrants, but they must submit the biometric services fee, or a fee waiver request, if they are at the age of 14 or older. Form I-765 application fee will be charged for re-registrants applying for an EAD unless they apply for a fee waiver request.
Nationals of Honduras and Nicaragua can now view additional information online on TPS, including guidance on the application process and eligibility on the USCIS website.
